Job hopping with edX

(This is an English translation of this article written in Japanese. )

Do you know edX?

In a nutshell, edX is a worldwide expansion of university courses for working adults and students.

Harvard University and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) have established this high level course set to eliminate the global digital divide.

The greatest feature of the program is that if you get a certain score or higher, you will receive a certificate from the university.

It costs about $50-$99 to get a certificate, but it’s also a motivation to study seriously because you’re paying for it.

By the way, the Certificate I got were below.

The noise part on the right side has the signature of the instructor in charge, and the date of acquisition and Certificate ID are written below, which is a full-fledged one.

This is a strong learning incentive, as MIT and Harvard certificates are rare in Japan.

First, go to https://www.edx.org/.

Click on “Causes” at the top left of the page and you will see the course equivalent of an undergraduate course.

If you have a course you are interested in, click on it. You can choose the course that corresponds to the department of each university.

Each course has a short movie in minutes that provides useful information for you to learn.

If you find a course you like, just click on “Resister” in the top right corner, enter your email address and password, and you can start taking the course immediately.

It’s a dream come true to be able to take a course at Harvard or MIT with such an easy process!

The lectures are in video format with subtitles on the side of the screen.

Subtitles are highlighted along with the conversation, so you can follow the conversation with your eyes while listening to it.

This is convenient because you can also see the words with your eyes when the pronunciation is hard to hear. (advice for Japanese )

You can also download the subtitles as a text file.

You will have a chat box and written answers to help you improve all three skills, reading, listening and writing.

If you have good grades, you can actually go to MIT and get degree.

So if you are confident, Would you like to give it a try?

The Certificate can also be registered in the eligibility section of Linked In, one of the world’s largest business-specific social networking sites.
(There is a proper edX option in the qualification column.)

In this way, the university symbol is also displayed, so you can effectively appeal your qualifications to companies.

I am not sure if this works, but there were some offers.

I hope you find the right job for you!
